RESEARCH & EDUCATION
Toral is a nutrition and integrative oncology consultant for a variety of research projects and has contributed to grant proposals and research papers. She ensures that research trials are inclusive of marginalised groups and supports research groups to be more inclusive in their patient criteria.

Toral educates healthcare professionals and those in the oncology domain about ways to effectively incorporate diet and lifestyle with cancer treatment, relying on current clinical research and evidence-based medicine, with the intention of enhancing outcomes and reducing risk of a relapse.

According to WHO and WCRF, up to 40% of cancers can be prevented through nutrition and lifestyle changes.

Toral shows you how to give patients this information and support needed for behaviour change, while making the cancer experience equitable for all.

Toral is also co-founder of South Asian Supernovas, a not for profit organisation (n the process of becoming a charity) that alongside community, medical and oncology professionals, the pharmaceutical industry, healthcare and media to raise awareness and remedy inequalities in the breast cancer care of South Asians in the UK.

(I-Prehab) to address inequity in cancer outcomes: mixed-methods evaluation research to enhance access, acceptance and adherence.
2
NIHR Committees
Toral has been part of the NIHR Nutrition and Cancer collaborative
for over 3 years, and shares her personal and professional experience of cancer, and working with patients. She is part of the Living with
and beyond cancer group and contributed to several studies, grant proposals and papers.

South Asian breast cancer - awareness, diet & lifestyle research
In the UK, South Asians experiencer poorer outcomes and greater
risk of breast cancer at even after considering age and other confounders. The community has less awareness of self-checking, routine screening and modifiable risks so are often diagnosed at a later stage. Nutrition and lifestyle can make a huge impact on this risk but very little data has been collected and analysed in this population.
4
Inequalities in cancer care
Ethnic minorities and other marginalised group face poorer outcomes in cancer in the UK, US and Europe. Education and understanding bias is important for creating change in cancer care, so supporting health care professionals to look at their own behaviour and process.
5
Physical activity and breast cancer
In the UK, South Asians experiencer poorer outcomes and greater
risk of breast cancer at even after considering age and other confounders. The community has less awareness of self-checking, routine screening and modifiable risks so are often diagnosed at a later stage. Education
and Support
Toral offers a range of training and education services to medical, healthcare and oncology units to support them to provide the latest nutritional medicine and integrative oncology advice to their patients and to inform their practice.
She translates the latest research into clinical practice and how you can advise patients in a culturally appropriate manner.
One of Toral's passions is reducing inequalities in cancer and she works with organisations to understand how they can make services more inclusive.
01
INTEGRATIVE ONCOLOGY
Integrative oncology is an evidence-based and patient centred approach to cancer care that combines conventional medical treatments with food & natural products, mind-body practices, and lifestyle changes to improve patients' quality of life and clinical outcomes.

Toral shares the latest research alongside practical tips to share with patients to reduce their treatment side effects, improve treatment compliance and quality of life during and beyond treatment.
02
NUTRITIONAL MEDICINE
Patients often want to know about nutrition and food, and what they can eat to reduce their risk of recurrence of cancer. However, our oncology teams rarely include a nutritionist who understands the food and dietary patterns that can reduce risk of recurrence. Toral's knowledge of nutriton and the research behind reducing risk of cancer and recurrence can be shared with the oncology team so that they can answer the most common questions and to create resources for patients.
03
LIFESTYLE AND
MIND-BODY THERAPIES
Lifestyle modifications, such as exercise, stress management, and sleep hygiene, can have a profound impact on our health and the risk of cancer and cancer recurrence. Mind-body therapies, such as meditation, yoga, and tai chi, can help reduce stress, improve mood, and promote overall well-being.
Understanding how the evidence behind these practices can improve treatment side effects increasing compliance, and reduce risk of cancer recurrence and improve quality of life.
04
EDUCATION & SUPPORT
Toral offers a range of talks, webinars and training opportunities for oncology staff to understand more about nutrition, lifestyle, genetics and genomics, mind-body practices, and supplements and how they can advise their patients.
